The territory of University of Latvia (UL) in Torņakalns is developing rapidly - in 2015 the House of Nature opened its doors, in 2019 the House of Science followed, and the next in line is the House of Letters. In the coming years, it is planned to build the House of Technologies, the House of Health, the House of Students and Guests as well as the House of Sports.

The aim of the Competition is to obtain a sketch design for the territory of the Academic Centre of the UL which is economically justified and meets the requirements of the Brief and the Designing Programme; to receive proposals for the functional zoning of the territory of UL and a vision for the spatial plan of the territory and to obtain a proposal for construction of the House of Sports.

The subject of the competition is the construction plan, which will be based on jury's favourite functional zoning of the territory and the spatial vision of the complex "Development of the spatial plan for the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia" and the proposal for the construction of the House of Sports.

The competition jury consists of UL representatives, City Development Department of the Riga City Council representatives, Riga City Architect's Office representative, Latvian Union of Architects and Latvian Association of Landscape Architects representatives and Dutch urban planner. 

The competition is open and is organized in two rounds. The first round of the competition will take place from July 19 to September 19, 2022.

The total prize fund of the competition is 40 000 euros.
