The University of Latvia Academic Library is generally available science library, the centre of national culture and knowledge, the storage and keeper of intellectual values, one of the oldest book storage in Europe with its history started in the late 1524 under the name “Riga City Library” (Bibliotheca Rigensis). In 1885 the outstanding Latvian bibliophile and bibliographer Jānis Misiņš founded the Misiņa Library which is considered to be the oldest and most complete storage of Latvian literature. In 1954 these both book storages were united, providing their readers an opportunity to use the funds of both unique libraries.
